‘Back in Action’ Trailer: Cameron Diaz Ends Her 11-Year Acting Retirement by Teaming Up With Jamie Foxx for Netflix’s Spy Movie
by Emiliana Betancourt · VarietyCameron Diaz is back in action!
After an 11-year hiatus from acting, Diaz has returned to the big screen in Netflix‘s spy action comedy “Back in Action,” along with her “Annie” co-star Jamie Foxx. “Back in Action” will premiere on Netflix on Jan. 17.
The comedic thriller follows Diaz and Foxx as a retired CIA agent couple, Emily and Matt, who find themselves out of the suburbs and back on the field when their cover is suddenly exposed. The trailer has plenty of action, including Foxx burning henchmen with a flamethrower and the couple escaping a plummeting plane with a parachute. Think of them like Jason Bourne, but “we remember stuff,” as Foxx quips in the trailer.

The movie is directed by Seth Gordon, who previously directed “Horrible Bosses” and “Baywatch.” Gordon co-wrote the script alongside Brendan O’Brien, one of the co-writers of “Neighbors.”
“Back in Action” will mark Diaz’s comeback after she announced her retirement in 2014 in order to dedicate herself to raising her two children with her husband Benji Madden. In the meantime, the star launched her popular wine Avaline and has appeared on episodes of “The Drew Barrymore Show” and “RuPaul’s Drag Race.” Diaz will also return to voice acting for the upcoming animated sequel “Shrek 5.” “Back in Action” is also Foxx’s return to the public eye after being hospitalized for an unspecified medical emergency last year. Foxx hasn’t spoken about his unknown illness at length, but he’s set to discuss the incident in a Netflix stand-up special titled “What Had Happened Was.”
