British Airways steward suspended over 'heartless' social media posts about Liam Payne
by Lee Grimsditch, Bethany Gavaghan, Daniel Bird · Wales OnlineA British Airways cabin crew member is facing severe criticism and has been branded "heartless" for allegedly sharing sensitive details about Liam Payne's body. The flight attendant, who was reportedly working during the journey that returned Liam's remains from Buenos Aires to the UK, has breached the airline's stringent confidentiality rules.
The 31-year-old had suffered fatal injuries after a fall from his hotel balcony in the Argentinian capital on October 16, leading to "internal and external haemorrhage". The incident transpired after the crew member purportedly revealed on social media that they were transporting a coffin on the November 6 flight, later finding out it was carrying Liam Payne's body with his family also aboard, saying: "Just been told we're carrying a coffin with us today," and further stating, "To then find out it's Liam Payne's body and his family are on our flight too, heart-breaking."
Following this revelation, The Sun reports that the individual involved has been suspended by British Airways. An insider accuses the crew member of prioritising their social media presence over their professional responsibilities. For the latest TV & Showbiz news, sign up to our newsletter
They claimed: "This stewardess cares more for her online social media following than her job. She has been brought to the attention of bosses due to previous posts. It is a serious data breach, not to mention a callous and heartless move to tell the world of Liam's final journey for the good of her online following."
A representative for the airline informed the Mirror: "We are investigating this matter so it would be inappropriate to comment further."
Liam, originally from Wolverhampton, was laid to rest earlier this week near his former home in Buckinghamshire. His devastated parents, Karen and Geoff, were accompanied by his sisters Ruth and Nicola, as well as his ex-girlfriend and mother of his young son, Cheryl Tweedy.
Insiders stated that while everyone inside the beautiful Amersham church in Buckinghamshire was recalling his kind acts and charming personality, they felt an "unfathomable loss". After the funeral, a bystander told the Mirror: "Liam's former One Direction bandmates stood shoulder to shoulder, their grief evident, as they exchanged quiet words and comforting embraces. Simon Cowell, his face still marked with sadness, was seen consoling Liam's friends and family, undoubtedly offering heartfelt words amid the shared pain."
Liam's family took great care to organise a funeral service that was a fitting tribute to the singer's life. The ceremony included unique and personal elements to honour Liam's memory, alongside traditional floral arrangements and candles.
