Liverpool has once again been transformed into 19th century Dublin and New York for the filming of the new Netflix series, House of Guinness. Crews have been spotted setting up what appears to be a market scene outside St George's Hall today (October 31).

The programme is set in 19th century Dublin and New York, and focuses on the Guinness family and the aftermath of the death of the firm's founder, Benjamin Guinness. The series is spearheaded by Steven Knight, best known as the creator of Peaky Blinders, which was also partly filmed on Merseyside.

The release date for House of Guinness has not yet been revealed. Happy Valley star James Norton and Louis Partridge, best known for Netflix’s second Enola Holmes film, have been previously spotted on set and are anticipated to be part of the new show.

This isn't the first time Liverpool has been transformed for the filming of House of Guinness however. Pictures from previous sets outside St George's Hall show a number of horses on set and actors walking around in typical 19th century garb, with top hats and tails for the men, and long flowing dresses for the women. On William Brown Street, the crew had muddied up the paving slabs to give the cobbles an authentic Victorian look and feel.

Onlookers have previously told the ECHO how they watched what appeared to be a riot or demonstration scene being filmed, that appeared to be taking place next to a funeral procession. Placards were reportedly spotted in the background with the words 'Remember Nighty Eight' - a likely reference to the Irish Rebellion of 1798. There was also a sign saying 'For Allen, Larkin and O'Brien'. These were the names of the Manchester Martyrs, who were publicly hanged in 1867 in Salford Gaol.

This time however, St George's Hall appears to have been transformed into a much more mundane scene. Several market carts selling flowers, bread and groceries have been placed on the steps.

The ECHO's photographer Iain Watts has been outside St George's Hall today and captured some shots of the set that is being set up as anticipation builds. The ECHO understands filming is expected to start tomorrow but here are some sneak peeks of what you can expect.
