BBC Strictly's JB Gill shares his 'biggest regret' in life and it's very surprising

by · Birmingham Live

JB Gill, a member of the Strictly Come Dancing cast and one-fourth of the boy band JLS, has opened up about how his career could have taken a different path. Jonathan Benjamin Gill, who initially danced with Strictly pro-Amy Dowden but is now partnered with Lauren Oakley following Amy's health scare, is also known for hosting TV shows Down on the Farm and Songs of Praise.

He recently expressed regret over a decision he made in his youth. Despite his success as a JLS singer and Strictly star - including two Brit awards and five MOBO awards before JLS disbanded in 2013 - JB revealed that his life could have been entirely different had he not abandoned a childhood dream.

Speaking to The Sun, he shared how he traded playing the flute and piano for rugby in his younger years but wishes he had continued and potentially become a classical musician. The 37-year-old, who resides with his wife Chloe, 31, and their two children Ace, five, and Chiara, one, in Croydon, South London, started making music at seven, playing the recorder, piano and flute.

He joined his primary school choir at a young age and later performed at his local church.

JB Gill's educational background is marked by his attendance at Whitgift School in Croydon, where he received a scholarship for his all-around excellence in music, academics, and sports. Initially, he pursued music, but his focus shifted to rugby during his secondary school years, leading him to join the London Irish rugby club and participate in international tours, reports the Mirror.

However, due to an injury, he had to give up rugby and instead took up vocal coaching during a gap year before enrolling in a Theology degree program at King's College University.

On Strictly, JB and his partner Amy Dowden, who dressed as scarecrows for Halloween week, earned 32 points out of 40 from the judges for their Foxtrot. Although the singer and TV presenter received positive feedback from the judges, he found himself in the dance-off.

Fortunately, the judges decided to save JB and Amy, eliminating Paul Merson instead. Currently, JB is paired with Lauren Oakley as Amy recovers from an illness. Amy fell ill after their Halloween performance, prompting a precautionary ambulance call.

Her representative stated, "Amy was feeling unwell, so an ambulance was called as a precaution. She is feeling much better and would like to thank the Strictly family for their love and concern. We request Amy's privacy in matters of health is kindly respected."

During the results show, JB appeared alone and shared his thoughts with Claudia Winkleman: "Honestly, I am beside myself, and Amy is, of course, going to be so happy (about not being in the bottom two) that we are through to icons week. It's an amazing feeling."
