Solihull Touchwood announces 'good news' after shoppers 'trapped' in car park

The boss of a popular Solihull shopping centre has announced 'good news' after cars were left "trapped" in their car park last week. Multiple drivers reported being stuck in the John Lewis car park at Solihull's Touchwood Shopping Centre in Solihull ‘for hours’ on Saturday November 9.

The chaotic scenes followed a similar incident on Monday afternoon, where guests exiting the Touchwood car park faced huge delays trying to exit with their vehicles. Both car parks are used by Touchwood shoppers, some of whom told BirminghamLive they were stuck for hours.

The cause of the bottlenecks was roadworks outside the car parks, blocking off a left turn. However ahead of a busy shopping weekend, Touchwood manager Tony Elvin shared some 'good news' with BirminghamLive.

He also laid out a plan for the coming weeks which will see works moved around to accommodate the busy shopping period in Solihull town centre.

Mr Elvin explained: "We have some good news on the Solihull roadworks and congestion. Touchwood are delighted that Vital Energi and Solihull Council have expedited the works to remove disruption moving forwards.

"The works taking place outside Touchwood have now finished and guests can exit the Touchwood car park by turning left or right as normal.

"All Traffic Management on Homer Road will be removed on Friday [November 15] to allow traffic as normal all weekend. They will then return on Monday 18th with Stop and Go Traffic Management outside the Core Theatre as they continue work from the road through the path and into the Core car park.

"This will last just two days and once complete will see normal traffic resume for the remainder of the year. The contractor Vital Energi has set up some drop in sessions for any business wishing to discuss the disruption further or to discuss further works taking place on Homer Road from January."

• Tuesday 19 November,10am- 2pm
