Martin Lewis issues WASPI compensation warning after Sir Keir Starmer update
by James Rodger, https://www.facebook.com/jamesrodgerjournalist · Birmingham LiveMartin Lewis has issued a warning over WASPI compensation after a major Department for Work and Pensions ( DWP ). The BBC and ITV star has spoken out over the update from Sir Keir Starmer, the Labour Party leader and Prime Minister.
Mr Lewis said: "#Waspi news reported by @politico London Playbook... Starmer also told traveling hacks there’ll be a statement on the plight of “WASPI women” in the “not too distant future.” It’s eight months since an ombudsman recommended that some get compensation."
In reply, a Twitter/X user said: "The rules were changed (and needed to). That happens. Changes have negatively affected lots of people not just WASPI women and by more for some. Blanket compensation (when the vast majority either knew or should have done) cannot be a priority at this time and should be stopped."

A second typed: "I see some critical replies are linking WASPIs and farmers. It's certainly true these groups have something in common: they're both getting abuse from Twitter trolls who have no idea what it's about or how things work."
Another said: "We are constantly kicked into the long grass. I don’t believe this is any different." Another typed: "It should be a full refund and not just the small gesture that has been suggested. My wife lost out on several years of payments."
"Starmer was thinking of the 12th of never, which he believes is a real date," another commented. "Starmer's response will be .. We'd like to compensate WASPIs but due to 14 years of Tory rule, a £22bn blackhole and having to fund the Ukrainian war effort, look after the illegal migrants and Net Zero projects, there is no money left!" another said.
And another posted: "I am a 50s woman. I paid tax and NIC all my working life. I became an unpaid carer and lived off my savings for 6 years. I need full compensation as no savings or private pension. Thank you sir."
