A friend of the late Princess Diana has said that there is one thing Prince Harry has done that his brother Prince William 'would never do'. Richard Kay spoke out about Prince Harry's appearance on the Jimmy Fallon show.

He said that the 40-year-old is 'desperately searching for some kind of role' amid his move to step back as a working royal. But Richard said his appearance on the US show is something William would never have considered.

Richard - who currently works as the Daily Mail’s Editor at large - spoke out on the publication’s Palace Confidential podcast. He made the comment in response to a question about what role members of the Firm should serve.

He touched on Harry’s current role and optics in Africa and in the USA, Express reports. Richard said: "Harry is treading this very difficult line between celebrity and royalty still…he looked very dignified in Lesotho but it’s a country he’s got a lot of connection with.

"But back in America, he's still tried to play the royal jester, the joker when he goes on these talk shows. I think his brother would never do anything like that or if he did it would be much more controlled.

"I suspect that Harry is still desperately searching for some kind of role." Richard also touched on the topic of whether members of the Royal Family were statesmen, stateswomen or played another function.

He said: "I have this issue about whether members of the Royal Family are statesmen, they’re not statesman or stateswomen, they’re ceremonial figures, that’s all they are." His comments came after Prince Harry appeared on The Tonight Show hosted by Jimmy Fallon.

In a segment, the Duke of Sussex goes through a haunted maze with the TV presenter. During the clip, Harry can be heard swearing and running as he encounters scary and terrifying elements of the maze.

One person who was critical of his TV appearance was Richard Eden who appeared alongside Richard on the podcast. He said: "It was sort of quite amusing, but ... royal families should just not do light entertainment.

"It never really ends well. We've seen Harry before with James Corden, that was cringe-making. We've seen Meghan ... squatting down on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, that was excruciating.

"And then if we go back further, we've got Prince Edward organising the grand knockout tournament." Harry has also appeared at the WellChild Awards in London recently and worked with a charity he co-founded in the 2000s in the African country of Lesotho.

The charity, known as Sentebale, was initially co-founded by Prince Harry and Prince Seesio as a way to help young people. It now supports people across both Lesotho and Botswana.

Speaking at an event in the country earlier this year, Harry said: "We are building a force of young advocates and when they are empowered to use their voices, the strength of their impact will be immense. You might not always realise how significant your influence is, but if it changes even one person’s life, it’s worth it."
