Queen Camilla pulls out of all public engagements as Buckingham Palace issues health update

by · Birmingham Live

The Queen has pulled out of all her public engagements this week after falling ill, Buckingham Palace said. She was understood to be resting at home and under doctors’ supervision.

Events were cancelled as she fell ill with a chest infection. The Duchess of Gloucester has stepped in on the Queen’s behalf and will attend the annual opening of the Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey on Thursday, November 7.

The Queen has also pulled out of a Buckingham Palace reception for Olympic and Paralympic athletes set to be hosted by King Charles on the same night. A Buckingham Palace spokesperson said: "Her Majesty The Queen is currently unwell with a chest infection, for which her doctors have advised a short period of rest.

"With great regret, Her Majesty has therefore had to withdraw from her engagements for this week but she very much hopes to be recovered in time to attend this weekend’s Remembrance events as normal. She apologises to all those who may be inconvenienced or disappointed as a result."

No further details regarding her illness or treatment were released. Queen Camilla contracted covid twice, first in early 2022 and again later in the year.

After her first infection, she appeared to recover well and resumed her public duties. The second bout led her to cancel some engagements but it was not thought she suffered any lasting health issues.

She previously had to cancel or reduce engagements due to minor injuries, fatigue, or back pain.
