by · Birmingham Live

Wayne Rooney has confessed he would like to take part in I'm A Celebrity in the future as he revealed he had a special gift for Coleen when she leaves the jungle. The footballing legend and Plymouth manager made a surprise appearance on spin-off show I'm A Celebrity Unpacked on Saturday night.

Admitting it was 'strange' seeing his wife in the jungle and sharing that it was the longest he had gone without speaking to her since they were children, Wayne said he was proud of his wife showing what a 'nice' and 'warm' person she is. Asked if they watched the show together, Wayne admitted they were big fans and said he would like to take part in the future.

He said: "We watch all the shows to be honest, but I think the celebrity one is the best one and the one we said if we were going to do one we would do." As host Joel Dommett questioned his use of 'we' and asked whether he would appear on the show, Wayne confessed: "Maybe if im not working. I'dd like to do one. At the minute obviously that's not possible."

Wayne was also questioned about his poetry after Coleen revealed his softer side on the ITV show. He revealed he would have a special poem ready and waiting for her on her exit.

He said: "To be honest it's something I've always liked doing, writing poems and expressing my feelings...There will be one waiting for her."

Wayne said the family was really missing Coleen, revealing: "It's the longest I've been without speaking to her since we were children. It's difficult for the children obviously not being able to speak to their mum but Coleen's parents are helping out massively. I'm over in Plymouth living there for my work...we're missing her but we're enjoying watching her as well."

Talking about his wife's time on the show, Wayne added: "It's strange seeing her out there in the jungle but I think she's doing a great job. She's showing everyone her personality, her character....it's strange but she's doing us all proud.

"She's a nice person, a warm person and a very caring person and I think that's coming across. She's probably in the middle of the older ones and the younger ones so she's bridging that gap.

"But I think she's showing her personality and character, that's coming across strong."

He added: "I'd love to see her do a trial. It's part of the experience...to test yourself. I'd love to see Coleen do one. I think she'd be really good at the trials."
