The ITV Good Morning Britain host Richard has addressed his shoplifting arrest live on air on Thursday November 7, as he hosted with Kate Garraway.
Richard said: "It's easy to forget to pay for things." Richard, aged 68, was arrested for allegedly shoplifting back in 1994, after supposedly failing to pay for goods from a local Tesco, the UK's biggest supermarket, including a bottle of champagne.
Richard was then taken to court but was cleared of all charges after claiming he'd had a freak memory lapse. Kate said today: "There's such a scurge of shoplifting and it's causing so many problems for shop keepers and for everybody else.

"So let us know what you think." Richard said: "I know for my own experience back in 1990 its very easy to forget to pay for stuff." He added: "Woah, just a minute a store detective, would you really accept a store detective putting you in cuffs?
"I would say 'woah it's an honest mistake let me explain'. There's a lot to consider." Previously, he reflected on the incident in a chat with The Guardian and explained: "I put the food through the till, I forgot to take the champagne out.
"I can handle anything, I can juggle eight balls in the air, and actually I came a horrible cropper. I can joke about it now." In another candid admission, Richard recently told how he sleeps in a different bed from wife Judy Finnigan.
Tying the knot back in 1986, the pair enjoy their serene life within the quaint coastal charms of Polperro in Cornwall. At 68, Richard, alongside his 76 year old wife Judy, boasts an impressive tenure in television, including fronting the much-loved Channel 4 programme Richard and Judy from 2001 until 2008.
