Vernon Kay has finally addressed the buzz surrounding him and his wife, Strictly Come Dancing host Tess Daly, possibly joining Celebrity Traitors amid ongoing speculation. As Gabby Logan handed over to Vernon on BBC Radio 2 this week, she immediately probed him about the rumours on behalf of her listeners.

When challenged on whether he's signed up to the upcoming show, the 50-year-old responded: "No, well, we're not, no. I say we, because our names have been battered around... myself and Strictly Come Dancing's Tess Daly, for doing Traitors."

Unconvinced by his denial however, Gabby suggested that Vernon might already be a traitor for keeping secrets, to which he playfully replied: "Well, who knows. I had a week off last week, that's all I'm saying. You never know."

Rumours are seemingly swirling about the pair's involvement due to their close friendship with the show's host Claudia Winkleman, who also presents Strictly with Tess.

A source told The Sun that producers are keen to sign up a star duo, like mother and son Diane and Ross from the last civilian series, to keep viewers intrigued. Other rumoured names in the mix include; Harry and Jamie Redknapp, Judy and Andy Murray, and Daisy May Cooper alongside her brother Charlie.

On how a celebrity duo could work with the usual dynamics, a television insider queried to the publication: "Would it warp the normal dynamic between the Traitors when it comes time to 'murder' their loved ones? And if they do turn on their partner, will it strain the relationship?"

The insider went on to insist that producers are aware of how these scenarios can shake things up in the show, having witnessed it in previous series. They added that roping in Tess and Vernon, particularly considering their connection to Claudia, "would be compulsive viewing".

While the speculation continues to mount, the BBC is yet to make any official announcement regarding the line-up for the new series, reportedly set to broadcast next year.

Strictly Come Dancing continues tonight at 6.30pm on BBC One.
