X Factor star unrecognisable seven years on from show amid sweet engagement proposal

by · Birmingham Live

Former The X Factor starlet Holly Tandy has experienced an incredible journey since her audition on the show seven years ago. At just 15, she wowed the judging panel, consisting of Simon Cowell, Nicole Scherzinger, Sharon Osbourne, and Louis Walsh, with her rendition of Alicia Keys’ “If I Ain’t Got You”.

Mentored by Sharon Osbourne in the live rounds, the Barnsley-born singer managed to finish in a commendable seventh place while Rak-Su clinched the top spot.

Now 23, Holly has transformed into a mature adult, regularly treating her social media followers to insights into her stylish endeavours, travel ventures, and personal life. She’s been in a relationship with Lewis Akeister for four years and took to Instagram in July to share the exciting news of their engagement, which took place during a romantic getaway to Santorini, Greece, shortly after her 23rd birthday.

Alongside a heartwarming video of the proposal, Holly wrote: "24.07.2024 Mr and Mrs Akeister to be". Filled with gratitude, Holly thanked her fans with a heartfelt message: "A massive thank you to all of you who commented we are just over the moon and can't begin to describe what this bubble we are in right now feels like! ! So grateful for everyone who congratulated us, lots of love". Adding to the avalanche of good wishes, The X Factor host Dermot O'Leary extended his congratulations with a friendly "Congrats! X" reports the Mirror.

Holly has ditched the blonde locks that became her signature look during her X Factor days, returning to her natural brunette hair, which she playfully calls her 'bride era'. She's been sharing selfies showcasing her new darker hairstyle on social media.

The star hasn't stepped away from the microphone, continuing to delight fans with her singing at weddings and other events.

On her Instagram, Holly proudly lists herself as a 'presenter' and often posts clips of her interactions with local talent in Barnsley. She's conducted interviews with sports stars from Barnsley FC's women's and men's teams and had conversations with figures like Conor Hourihane and Barnsley's own professional boxer, Callum Simpson.

Despite the many positive updates and achievements, Holly has also shared moments of grief, such as the loss of her cherished grandfather. Her followers might remember seeing him at her first audition, overcome with emotion by her performance.

In a heart-wrenching post last May, Holly announced his passing. She paid homage to him with heartfelt photos and a moving message on her social platforms: "Rest in peace to my hero, grandad David. He meant the world and more to our family and he really will be missed. Love from your song bird, Holly dolly x".
