Ben Miller has made a heartfelt admission about his reluctance to return to the world of comedy, despite a successful career that saw him transition from stand-up to starring roles on television and in film.

The 58 year old actor, known for making audiences chuckle for over two decades, confessed he's apprehensive about stepping back into the comedy scene.

During an appearance on ITV's James Martin Saturday Morning, host James Martin quizzed Ben on whether he'd ever consider going back to his comedic roots, reports the Express.

Opening up about his fears, Ben shared: "I'm scared of doing it again and I feel like... Well I wouldn't say I'm scared that I wouldn't give it a go but I feel like it's probably something I should do."

When James probed further, asking why he felt this way given his past triumphs, Ben explained: "It's hard and I feel like comedy has changed and am I a bit out of touch to do comedy again. In a comedy people have got to be laughing and it's that thought that what if it's not funny."

The conversation took a lighter turn as both men laughed, with Ben adding: "Comedy has its moments and I feel like it does belong to a certain time and place because it's about common references and change and also the style of comedy changes a lot."

Reflecting on the past, he noted: "We used to film our sketch show in front of a live audience and record their response and that definitely doesn't happen anymore, studios don't even exist."

James chimed in, highlighting the expansion of comedy: "Now comedy is on the big stage and huge arenas."

Ben then pitched in, commenting on his own career direction, "Yes exactly and that probably isn't my medium but I've got other things in the pipeline."

Currently commanding the screen as the titular character in ITV's crime drama 'Professor T', he portrays an accomplished criminologist hailing from Cambridge University, grappling with OCD while living under the same roof as his mother. His exceptional knack for deciphering criminal puzzles frequently draws the local constabulary to seek out his expertise.

While discussing his television stint, Ben revealed that audiences could anticipate the return of the series. Enthusiastically, he added, "Professor T the crime drama has been amazing. The first series has been on ITV and we've just finished filming the fourth series."

James Martin Saturday Morning airs from 09.30am on ITV and ITVX
