Ben Shephard said his wife "can't wait" to become a grandmother. The ITV star made the sweet family admission while hosting This Morning earlier this week.

During Thursday's edition of the popular daytime programme, Ben, 49, and co-host Cat Deeley were discussing family dynamics. The Mirror reports the pair were chatting to a caller about grandparents' contribution.

This prompted Ben to make a confession about his wife Annie. "I hate to say this but Annie can't wait to be a grandma already," he said. "The boys are 19 and 17 and she's like you know, they love it!"

The couple share two sons, Sam, 19, and Jack, 17. In July, the former Good Morning Britain presenter told his Instagram followers how his eldest has been away travelling since the start of the year.

Ben captured the moment Sam returned to see his parents in the summer, sharing footage from the airport. He captioned the post: "What a weekend. In a bit of a daze but got a big old smile on my face.

"It started with our 'Biggun' Sam coming home from seven months traveling. Can’t tell you how lovely it is having him back - and @annieshepharddesign is v v content!"

Celebrity pal Kate Thornton was one of those who commented on the homecoming. She wrote: "Does Annie feel like she can breathe again now he’s home!? I so felt for her. Glad he made it back in one piece with hopefully many memories and adventures under his belt."

The Tipping Point host's fans also chimed in, with one posting: "Just wonderful. I felt that mummy hug." Another added: "Aww, this is lovely to see. Seems like only a short time ago we were that age off on adventures and then home to parents, then off, then home!"
