Strictly star Josh Widdicombe scolded by Matt Tebbutt after 'dangerous' Saturday Kitchen blunder

by · Birmingham Live

Saturday Kitchen had a close call with guest Josh Widdicombe today (Saturday, November 16) when he nearly sustained a serious injury on the show.

Host Matt Tebbutt prepared a fondue for the comedian, and Josh was intrigued enough to test the heat of the burner intended to melt the cheese.

After prepping the pot with garlic, Matt placed it near the burner, which was emitting an intense blue flame.

Curiosity got the better of Josh as he hovered his hand over the flame and quickly withdrew it after feeling the heat.

"Whoah, hot!" he blurted out, causing chuckles among the other guests, reports the Express.

Matt sharply cautioned him, "Yeah, yeah, watch your hand."

Yet, Josh couldn't resist and again hovered his hand above, albeit further from the flame this time.

"Ooh!" Josh cried out, retracting his hand once more.

"It's a blue flame, you can't see it," Matt pointed out. "Don't do that at home! That's why we make Josh do it."

Josh laughed off the incident and waved his hand over the burner again, excitedly commenting, "I feel like I'm back with the Bunsen burner at school, it's great!"

Matt took the opportunity to give Josh a playful reminder about a basic science lesson, asking him: "Do you remember where the hottest part is?"

"Yes, yes!" Josh responded, before conceding, "Well, clearly, not!"

This humorous yet risky episode serves as a cautionary tale for viewers at home about the dangers of blue flames, which represent the most intense heat of the fire and should never be touched.

The programme took a turn for the chaotic when the fondue made its appearance and Josh dived into the cheese with some croutons.

His initial attempt at scooping up the cheese ended with his portion plunging into the gooey delight, but he struck cheesy gold on his second go.

As he lifted the crouton triumphantly above him, the cheese impressively stretched from the pot in an elongated trail.

"It's quite stringy!" he exclaimed, before making an adventurous journey across the room to the table with the stretchy cheese in tow.

With a little help from Matt, the cheese finally gave way, and Josh was able to savour the "lovely" cheese with a satisfied bite.

Saturday Kitchen airs Saturdays at 10am on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
