Sugababes 'feud' as original members take swipe at ex stars

by · Birmingham Live

An original Sugababes member has taken a savage dig at ex-members following the band's reunion. Mutya Buena, Keisha Buchanan and Siobhan Donaghy joined Will Manning's Capital Breakfast yesterday to spill a series of secrets about the band.

When asked by Will: "You three are the OG Sugababes, but out of all the versions, which one do you think was the best? " Mutya, laughing uncontrollably, instantly replied: "The first one."

Siobhan then added: "I think the thing is we started it when we were young teenagers, and I think there'll always be something about the Sugababes that is this for us. It's where it started and it is the essence of what it is." Mutya chimed in with: "It's our baby."

The Sugababes were formed back in 1998, with the original lineup featuring Siobhan, Mutya, and Keisha. In 2001, Siobhan Donaghy exited the group and Heidi Range stepped in.

Mutya Buena departed in 2005, replaced by Amelle Berrabah. In 2009, Keisha Buchanan left the band, with Jade Ewen stepping in. Over the years, the Sugababes have released music with various lineups. In 2012, the original trio reunited.

There have been several disputes between the original bandmates and the newer members over the years. One significant clash occurred in March 2024, when all past and present members wanted to tour under the Sugababes name.

An inside source confided in The Sun: "The original trio are furious that the others want to try and use the name as they feel it's theirs." Karen, Heidi's mother, expressed her frustration on Instagram: "I can't believe the cheek of it. Sugababes didn't have a hit till Heidi joined. It is so false and disrespectful the way they are carrying on."

Mutya responded to the situation by saying: "When I wasn't in the group and the girls was doing big things without me, do you think I was getting upset about not being mentioned?"

No statement has been made by a spokesman for the original Sugababes. The OG Sugababes are prepped to take to the stage for an anticipated UK tour slated for April 2025, with concerts planned in major cities across the country like London, Manchester, and Cardiff.
