BBC Return to Paradise star Anna Samson's real life romance with co-star

by · Birmingham Live

Anna Samson is set to make television history as the first female Detective Inspector in a Death in Paradise series. The British-Australian actress will take on the role of DI Mackenzie Clarke in the upcoming spinoff, Return to Paradise, tonight on BBC One.

But it's not just Anna's on-screen prowess that's turning heads. Fans are equally fascinated by her off-screen life, particularly her past relationship with fellow actor Lee Jones.

The duo first crossed paths on the set of the 2017 TV thriller mini-series Wake in Fright, and later shared the screen again in Home and Away. Interestingly, they portrayed siblings Mick and Joe Jaffries in Wake in Fright before reuniting in Summer Bay, where Lee joined Anna as ambulance officer Luke.

The pair went public with their romance by posting personal photos on social media, offering fans a sneak peek into their life away from the spotlight. While Anna's career has been soaring, she and Lee have maintained a low-profile romance.

They haven't posted a couples' photo online since 2021, and have remained tight-lipped about their current relationship status, sparking rumours about whether the TV pair are still together, reports the Mirror. However, earlier this year, Anna, aged 34, did leave a couple of adoring heart-eyes emojis under one of Lee's Instagram posts.

Anna is quite familiar with earnest engagement with her online community. She took to Instagram and shared an open letter confronting the vicious attacks from "dangerous" cyberbullies, detailing her bold retort to such toxic internet conduct.

Viewers are keenly awaiting Anna's comeback on television, where she will portray Detective Inspector Mackenzie Clarke in the soon-to-be-released drama 'Return to Paradise'. This series features an Australian expatriate turned London police detective who returns to Australia to solve a murder case in tandem with Aussie cops.

Return to Paradise airs on BBC One and BBC iPlayer at 8pm on Friday, November 22.
