ITV Vera's last season start date confirmed as viewers say 'can't wait'

Vera enthusiasts have been given a significant hint about when the popular drama will return for its concluding series, courtesy of an informative new TV advert. The beloved ITV programme first appeared on our screens in 2011, with BAFTA winner Brenda Blethyn wearing her now-iconic trench coat and fishing hat for the first time, alongside co-star David Leon and a youthful Sam Fender, who has the unusual honour of being Vera's first murder victim.

Fast forward 13 years, and fans around the globe were shocked when ITV declared that the 14th series, shot across North East locations such as Blyth, South Shields, Gateshead and the Northumberland village of Glanton, would be its last. Further disappointment ensued when it was disclosed that the final run would only comprise two episodes, although a behind-the-scenes documentary, Vera, Farewell Pet, will offer some solace.

Just months after filming her last scenes as the iconic detective Vera, Brenda Blethyn joined author Ann Cleeves on stage at the British Film Institute in London for a special celebration event, Vera - End of an Era. During the evening, which included a QandA session hosted by Emma Kennedy, it was suggested that the final episodes of Vera would air within the next year.

ITV has officially confirmed the news in a recent advert, urging viewers to catch up on all previous episodes on ITVX before the new series premieres in January, reports Nottinghamshire Live.

The announcement quickly circulated among Vera fan groups online, with one thrilled fan sharing: "Just seen an ad for Vera. Coming to the screens in January 2025 uk. I can't wait."

Another posted: "Just seen an advert on ITV in the UK which said "Stream the boxset of Vera before the next series starts in January,"
