Death In Paradise's Dwayne's secret 'revealed' as his dad Nelson arrives

by · Birmingham Live

Death In Paradise is set for a festive shock, as Nelson, the father of fan-favourite Dwayne, will return this Christmas.

For the Christmas special, Detective Inspector Don Gilet will debut as DI Mervin Wilson, stepping in for the recently departed DI Neville Parker (played by Ralf Little) who jetted off to cruise the Caribbean with his love Florence Cassell.

Fans will be delighted to know that Nelson's comeback to the island has been confirmed. Dwayne made a surprise entrance last series following Marlon Pryce's unexpected exit from the island to be with his sister, who was moving to Jamaica for her education.

Dwayne's re-entry into the team was met with warm welcomes from Commissioner Selwyn Patterson and DS Naomi Thomas. His past love interest Darlene Curtis, however, wasn't quite as thrilled with his reappearance.

Upon Dwayne's reunion with the team, he mentioned his dad would soon join them on the island, although he opted to return ahead to give the Saint Marie police a helping hand, reports Wales Online.

He later divulged to Darlene the reason behind their return; his father was unwell. "Really? I understand doc," Dwayne was overheard speaking into the phone. When probed by Darlene about his dad's condition, he said: "The old goat doesn't have as much life left in him as I've been making out, but that's why I'm really back. This is where he wants to spend the rest of his days."

However, could it be that Dwayne has returned for an entirely different reason? We know he is close to his father, but women have been the main focus for Dwayne in the previous series. Could Darlene be the real reason for Dwayne's return?

In this year's Christmas episode, Don Warrington will reprise his role as Commissioner Selwyn Patterson, along with Shantol Jackson (DS Naomi Thomas), Ginny Holder as Officer Darlene Curtis, Danny John-Jules as Officer Dwayne Myers and Elizabeth Bourgine as Catherine Bordey.

This festive season, viewers can anticipate Mervin (Don Gilet) stirring things up as he attempts to solve the murders of three unrelated men, all found shot while dressed in Santa Claus outfits. His investigative methods don't quite align with the team, while Dwayne faces some domestic issues as his Christmas with his father doesn't go as planned - but what unfolds?

Death In Paradise's Christmas special will air this December on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
