Review: Divinity: Original Sin II - Definitive Edition (PS4)

Larian Studios appears to be readying a native PS5 port of Divinity: Original Sin 2, the critically acclaimed RPG it made prior to Baldur's Gate 3. The game has always been playable on Sony's current-gen console via backwards compatibility, but bringing it natively to PS5 could open it up to graphical improvements as well as DualSense controller utilisation. It's received a PEGI age rating for a PS5 version, all but confirming the port is in the works.
The game was originally ported to PS4 in 2018 as an Enhanced Edition for consoles, at which point we awarded a 9/10 rating in our review. "With stellar writing, challenging combat, a compelling central quest, and dozens of worthwhile side activities, Divinity: Original Sin II is one of the finest role-playing games available on PlayStation 4," we said. "There’s the occasional small issue and some scant technical hiccups – particularly when playing online – but these are minor quibbles. This is a dense, engrossing adventure, packed to the hilt with stories worth hearing, conflicts you’ll want to resolve, and secret treasures just begging to be discovered."

About Liam Croft
Liam grew up with a PlayStation controller in his hands and a love for Metal Gear Solid. Nowadays, he's found playing the latest and greatest PS5 games as well as supporting Derby County. That last detail is his downfall.

Divinity Original Sin II was my first CRPG 3 years ago and I absolutely loved it. I'll happily get it again on PS5!
Another REMASTER!!! IT'S ONLY 7 YEARS OLD (6 years for console)!!!!
/S
Been a while since I've rolled a barrelmancer so I'm kinda excited to go back. The class was severely nerfed in BG3.
Hopefully a free upgrade for those that own the ps4 version or a cheap upgrade
Yes, please. I'll give it a go

@Dragon83 i'm hoping the same, but I'm happy with the PS4 version if it is too costly. It's Larian though, so I trust them to do the right thing.
I really hope Larian also releases a patch/native PS5 version of Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition. I recently tried to get into it but the awful 30 FPS mode with no way to toggle Performance Mode put me away from playing it in the first hour.
@MrPeanutbutterz I think the combat system was weaker overall and the game had a very dull act 3 and an excellent act 1. Which is funny because it got even worse in BG3 while also having a dull act 3 and an incredible act 1.
I'll be buying this again, it's one of my all time favourites.

Hopefully with a physical release too. I'd def get it.
Please be physical too 🙏
I have to say I much prefer the combat and level design for combat areas in this one to BG3. Story, pacing and writing is hands down for BG3 though but I hope that Larian can meld the two strengths together for their next release.
Great news to hear it's getting a polished release on PS5 as the other console versions were pretty rough. I've been playing it on Switch which is amazingly addictive cos of form factor but terrible performance-wise 😂
