Infinity Ward's Turn in 2026, Sledgehammer Games in 2027, Says Call of Duty Insider

2025 remains a mystery

by · Push Square

As everyone is still glued to Black Ops 6, it might seem too soon to start looking ahead to future releases, but the voracious Call of Duty beast never rests. According to a known series insider, Sledgehammer Games will reportedly lead development on 2027's inevitable Call of Duty release. This same leaker expects that 2026's release will be Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, developed by Infinity Ward.

That's what The Ghost of Hope says anyway (thanks, PSU), and the leakster made the bold prediction on X, and that it's possible 2027's game could end up being Advanced Warfare 2. We'll admit to not being up to date on the developmental machinations of Activision's studio structure, but it is quite fascinating to us that virtually nothing is known about the next Call of Duty, expected in 2025. In a reply, The Ghost of Hope says: "Nobody knows who owns [COD 2025], but every studio is working on it. Pretty odd".

Why are we still letting Sledgehammers games lead their own game? Maybe it time to let another studio step a develop their title. How about Raven software?

So as usual? That's how they rotate between devs lol.

How about they skip 2025 so we don't need 30 updates on the game for bug fixes and stability improvements 😅

@AverageGamer it's an odd situation because Sledgehammer only had less than two years to put out Modern Warfare 3 after Vanguard, and was definitely rushed by the publisher when it was planned to be a DLC

Raven developed the campaign for Black Ops 6, and its the best campaign in years. That makes my prediction 2025's COD will be Treyarch again with "more of the same" multiplayer from Black Ops 6 but a new campaign that they've made tthemselves.

How about actually taking a break in 2025?

...Yeah, that's never gonna happen.

Good, this year by far was the worst campaign (and gameplay) and Infinity is pretty much the only studio making good CoDs.

2025's Call of duty will just be glorified DLC for Black Ops 6, just like MW3 was....

2025’s cod has long been rumoured to be a Black Ops 2 sequel, reported by Tom Henderson months ago.

Charlie Intel also noted the remaking of Black Ops 2’s maps.

Though the developer remains unconfirmed, “virtually nothing being known” isn’t quite true.

@Khayl it's been rumored plenty of times that the COD of 2025 will be a rehash of BlackOps 2 in some shape or form ... also made by Treyarch

@Jacko11: sorry, posted at the same time

I don't know why people talk ***** about Sledgehammer. They made two of my favorite CODs, Vanguard and WWII.

We hear people complain all the time about copy/paste year after year. Yet, when a developer makes something different, it's trash...smh

On topic. As for next year's COD, more Black Ops isn't necessarily a bad thing. Means more time for the other two developers to work on their title.
