ADVICE: How do we decide what's a good deal or not?

Firstly, we look at our favourite five-star and Award-winning products, to see if there's a deal on the products we already recommend in each price bracket. Any money off the current retail price – or if it's lower than when we originally reviewed it at – is a good deal in our books.

Alternatively, we cross-check any new deals we spot across retailers such as Amazon, Richer Sounds, John Lewis etc to see if we've tested this product ourselves. Then we check if it's genuinely a good deal – some sites will be transparent about previous price drops and for how long; some will inflate the price ahead of time to make it seem like a bigger saving than it actually is. This is where we do some research to check the last available prices on a particular product. If it's no good, we won't recommend it, or find an alternative deal.

Some products might have been at a lower price at last year's Black Friday, but we still think that any price drop for current buyers are worth highlighting. The good news is that you have a bit of time to mull over this substantial hi-fi purchase – Black Friday starting so early means you have more time to see if this price drops any further.
