Peak District: Edale Mountain Rescue Team team to feature on BBC Countryfile
by Oscar Fisher · Derbyshire LiveA Derbyshire mountain rescue team has teased Peak District lovers ahead of a special episode of BBC's Countryfile tonight (Sunday, December 15). Edale Mountain Rescue Team dropped a heavy hint on Sunday morning, encouraging locals to tune in to BBC One at 6pm.
The mountain rescue team, which says it has "sworn to secrecy" about the fine details of the episde, released an image of a red piece of fabric at a quarry in the national park, resembling the quarries you would find around Stoney Middleton. A spokesperson for the mountain rescue team said: "What’s going on here then?
"All will be revealed this evening at 6pm on BBC One when Countryfile visits the Peak District. In amongst farmers, countryside campaigners and bootmakers they also meet Edale MRT.
"We’re sworn to secrecy about the fine detail of our bit of the programme, but it features a bit about the 60th anniversary of PDMRO (Peak District Mountain Rescue Organisation), some advice on what to carry in your rucksack on the moors and hills and coverage of a multi-agency rescue we took part in last year.
"If you enjoy the programme you can donate to support us via our website. If you require Mountain Rescue in an emergency dial 999 and ask for ‘Police - Mountain Rescue’."
The rescue team reportedly had one of its busiest years on record back in 2023, with 260 requests for assistance being registered between January and June. During one weekend in September 2023, the team were called out to a record seven incidents, six of which came on one day.
