Three fire engines called to tackle blaze at Peterlee McDonald's branch

Firefighters were called to the blaze at Peterlee McDonald's on Friday morning

Firefighters in County Durham have tackled a fire at the Peterlee branch of McDonald's.

The County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene on Friday morning with three fire engines and firefighters used breathing apparatus and a thermal imaging camera to tackle the blaze, which appeared to be to the rear of the restaurant.

The fire service were first called at 9.55am. The restaurant is in the Surtees Road area of the town.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: “We were called at 9.55am today (October 4) to a fire at McDonald’s on Surtees Road, Peterlee. Two fire engines from Peterlee and one fire engine from Seaham and attended the scene.

"Firefighters tackled the fire using breathing apparatus (BA), one hose reel, positive pressure ventilation and a thermal imaging camera."

The restaurant was closed to customers on Friday morning and it has not been confirmed when it will reopen.
