The final touches are being put on Newcastle Christmas Market tonight as the city centre bathes in the glow of festive lights.

However, it's not open quite yet, with a ribbon-cutting launch set to take place on Saturday morning. As well as trade stalls offering every Christmas gift you could hope for, this year sees Alpine Bar Moosenwirt return for the third time and private dining igloos dotted around the 'North Pole' at Monument.

At Old Eldon Square, there will be a Christmas Village, with kids' entertainment including a carousel and a Rockin’ Reindeer stage for festive films and performances. They're set around a giant Christmas tree, while Santa will take residence in a tipi.

The Newcastle Christmas Market will be open daily from 10am from November 16 until December 22. For details of the market traders taking part see here.
