Pictures as snow falls across the North East during Storm Bert

Much of the region woke to snow on Saturday as Storm Bert hit the North East.

The Met Office issued three weather warnings for snow, rain and wind across the region throughout Saturday. An amber alert for snow, covering County Durham and Northumberland, is in place until midday.

While a yellow warning for snow covering County Durham, Gateshead, Newcastle, Northumberland and Sunderland until 9am on Sunday. The alert was for "heavy snow on Saturday, followed by a rapid thaw and subsequent rain on Saturday night", which may cause some disruption. And in coastal areas a yellow weather warning for wind is also in place until 5pm.
