Morpeth Christmas lights switch-on in 15 pictures as festive window is revealed

Take a look at pictures of the Morpeth Christmas lights switch-on, as the town's festive window is revealed. A family fun day in the Northumberland town marked the launch of its countdown to Christmas.

Live music and a visit from Santa helped Morpeth residents celebrate what has quickly become a festive tradition. Rutherford & Co has also revealed its Christmas window as part of the celebrations, at the culmination of Morpeth Town Council's week of entertainment.

The unveiling of the decorations also included live music from a festive scavenger hunt around the town. The celebrations began at noon, and there were free children's rides and face-painting on offer to keep the kids occupied.

Speaking ahead of today's festivities, Councillor Betty Bawn, the Mayor of Morpeth, said: "As a Town Council, we’re dedicated to supporting our residents and businesses and we feel like our Christmas celebrations do just that. Families can come and enjoy a jam-packed afternoon of fun for free and a much-loved traditional Christmas light switch-on, while shopping and supporting our fantastic local businesses all throughout the day."
