A passenger has died after a car crashed into a parked vehicle in Inverclyde. Emergency services raced to Clune Brae in Port Glasgow after the alarm was raised at around 9.55pm on Monday.

A Volkswagen Golf, which was being driven by a 50-year-old woman, struck an unoccupied parked Peugeot. Ambulance crews attended but a 38-year-old man, who was a passenger in the Golf, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

The 50-year-old woman was taken to hospital for treatment before being arrested and released pending further enquiries. Police say an investigation to establish the full circumstances of the crash is ongoing and officers are asking anyone with information to come forward.

Chief Inspector David Doherty said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died. As our enquiries continue, we urge anyone who was in the area of Clune Brae and either witnessed the crash or has any information that may assist our investigation to contact us.

“Anyone with dash-cam or personal footage is asked to review it and please get in touch if it contains anything relevant to our investigation. If you have any information that could help, please contact 101 quoting reference number 3838 of 16 December.”
