British Airways flight to Aberdeen makes emergency landing after 'smoke and fumes in cockpit'

The flight took off from Heathrow at 8.45am and was bound for Aberdeen, due to land at 10.15am, when it made the unscheduled landing in Manchester. Tracking on the site FlightRadar shows the plane appeared to change direction while over Northamptonshire before heading northwest.
Tracking account @FlightEmergency posted on X, formerly Twitter, that pilots diverted the domestic flight after smoke and fumes were spotted. "British Airways flight BA1306 diverted to Manchester a short time ago under emergency conditions due to smoke and fumes in the cockpit," the service posted.

Emergency services met the flight on landing as a precaution but it was allegedly a minor technical issue.
A spokesperson for Manchester Airport said: "In situations like this they’re always treated as an emergency regardless of the severity to be on the safe side, which means emergency services attend. The fire service has attended and given the all clear."
A spokesperson for British Airways said: "Our aircraft was diverted as a precaution because of a suspected technical issue. We’re sorry to our customers for the disruption to their journeys and our teams are working to get them on their way again as quickly as possible."
