North Sea swimmer taken to hospital after rescue from water

A person swimming in the North Sea has been taken to hospital after getting into difficulty in the water.

A helicopter rescue team was scrambled to the North Sea after reports that the person got into difficulty in the waters off the town of Macduff in Aberdeenshire.

A Royal National Lifeboat Institution lifeboat joined the Coastguard helicopter in the rescue mission, after the alarm was raised at around 9.45am.

Aberdeen Live reports crews from Fraserburgh, Portsoy, Macduff and Buckie were called to assist after the drama unfolded this morning, December 17, 2024.

A lifeboat crew rescued the casualty from the water, who was then brought ashore and taken to hospital for further treatment. A Coastguard spokesperson confirmed the incident.

They said: "A casualty was rescued by lifeboat in waters off Macduff in Aberdeenshire this morning. The alarm was raised at 9.45am today, Tuesday 17 December.

"Coastguard Rescue Teams from Fraserburgh, Portsoy, Macduff, and Buckie were called, alongside the RNLI Macduff lifeboat and a rescue helicopter. The casualty was brought ashore and is being conveyed to hospital for further treatment."

The condition of the swimmer is unknown.
