Poll: Christmas trees up?

As Remembrance Day wreaths now rest at many cenotaphs, Castanet took to the streets to hear when residents think holiday cheer should begin.

"Put the Christmas lights up before December, and then turn them on the first week of December," said one Okanagan resident.

Many people agreed that the first of December is the day when they start bringing out their decorations.

"For me, I don't think it's bad if you want to start right after Halloween and those kind of holidays, especially, like I said, if you have kids," said another Okanagan resident. "I think it's nice to have, they can enjoy it longer and have a nice time."

For many interviewees, the decision on when to begin getting into the festive spirit came down to lifestyle, such as whether people have children or the space to decorate. Those with living Christmas trees also noted the limited timeframe for their trees.

However, many decorators said they're starting this week, following Remembrance Day. Those putting up lights were concerned about the weather getting too cold closer to December.

Another topic on people's mind was when to take down their tree.

Some said until New Year's Day. However, one gentleman said he's going to put hearts on his outdoor tree come Valentine's Day.

Whenever you deck the halls, you're bound to start noticing the season in stores until the new year.
