Winter slams Hwy 3
by Kathy Michaels · CastanetSnow is continuing to fall on the stretch of Highway 3 between Paulson Summit and Kootenay Pass, leading to what Environment Canada has deemed hazardous conditions.
In a storm warning, the national weather agency said that the Pacific frontal system impacting Highway 3 won't ease until tonight.
"A remaining snowfall accumulation of 20 to 30 centimetres is expected for the day," the warning reads.
"Rapidly accumulating snow will make travel difficult."
The weather agency said that visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow and that hazardous driving conditions can come on suddenly.
Winter tires or chains are required on most routes in British Columbia from Oct.1 to April 30. For select highways not located through mountain passes and/or high snowfall areas, tire and chain requirements end March 31.
