5cm of snow expected
by Madison Reeve · CastanetEnvironment Canada is forecasting snow for Kelowna this weekend, with up to five centimetres expected to fall on Saturday afternoon and evening.
Meteorologist Trevor Smith says the snow will begin accumulating on Saturday and continue through the evening hours.
"We’re looking at some measurable snow in the city, but whether warnings will be issued will depend on how things develop," Smith said. "We will know more by Friday."
For drivers traveling in the mountain passes, Smith warned that conditions will be more severe, with snowfall amounts ranging from 10 to 15 centimetres.
Winter tires are required on most B.C. highways between Oct. 1 and either March 31 or April 30.
Saturday’s daytime high is expected to reach just 1°C, making for a chilly start to the weekend.
