Incredible photos from 1980s Plymouth show city in a whole new light

Take a trip down memory lane

by · PlymouthLive

If you were a resident of Plymouth during the 1980s, this gallery is bound to stir up some nostalgia. For those who weren't around during that time, prepare for a journey back in time to see how the city looked four decades ago.

We've rummaged through the PlymouthLive and Herald archives to bring you a nostalgic trip down memory lane. All the photographs date between 1980 and 1989.

The collection of 43 photographs includes family portraits, children having fun in the park with a homemade go kart, and snapshots of various parts of the city, such as Pembroke Street during a parking issue - a memory that will likely resonate with those living there in 1988.

There are also images of the now non-existent Bretonside Bus Station and Tramps Cafeteria. The gallery also features Ridgeway and Crownhill, revealing some of the shops we have lost over the years.

So sit back, relax, and take a stroll through our photo gallery below. You may need to click 'next' at the bottom of the page to view the next set of photographs.
