Winter is here, Bengaluru!

Bengaluru is witnessing chilly weather and morning mist for the past two days.

Winter has truly set in Bengaluru as the city for the last couple of days has been witnessing chilly weather conditions. The minimum temperature has dropped to 15 degrees Celsius.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department’s (IMD), Bengaluru’s observation data recorded at 8.30 am on Tuesday the minimum temperature in Bengaluru city was 15.5 °C .

The two other observatories the HAL Airport and the Kempegowda International Airport also recorded a minimum of 15 °C respectively.

The average minimum temperature in Bengaluru for the month of December is 16.4 °C.

“The minimum temperature has dropped to 15 °C. There has been a drop of one degree Celsius from the normal temperature,” Dr. N. Puviarasan, scientist and head, IMD Bengaluru said.

The local forecast for Bengaluru and the neighbourhood for the next two days is clear sky, fog and mist very likely during early morning in some areas. “Maximum and minimum temperatures are very likely to be around 27°C and 17°C respectively,” states the IMD forecast.

As per IMD records, the all-time lowest minimum temperature recorded for the month December was 8.9 °C recorded on December 29, 1883.

In the last few years the minimum temperature plummeted on many occasions. On December 11, 2016 the city recorded a minimum temperature of 12 °C, likewise on December 24, 2011 the minimum temperature was 12.8 °C.

The all time record for the maximum temperature recorded for a December day was 31.4 °C on December 27, 2018.

The winter season in Bengaluru is between November and January with the latter being the coldest month of the season.
