New Met Office map shows which Greater Manchester boroughs will be hit by snow next week - and exactly when

A new map has revealed where snowfall is expected across Greater Manchester as millions of Brits brace for a chilly blast across the next few days.

Lots of us have already dug out our big coats following a sharp drop in temperatures over the last few weeks, with many areas experiencing single-figure lows.

And the Met Office says even colder weather is on the way - issuing a yellow weather warning for snow and ice for various parts of England.

The snow map has shown snowfall is expected across areas of Tameside, Stockport, Bury and Rochdale from 9am on Tuesday (November 19). Hail is also predicted across Manchester around the same time. This is expected to clear by the next day.

According to the forecast, snow flurries are expected across parts of England between Sunday, November 17 and Tuesday, November 19, potentially causing disruptions.

Higher ground areas may receive up to 20cm of snow on Monday and Tuesday, with a slight possibility of up to 10cm settling at lower elevations.

The yellow alert affects Scotland, Yorkshire, north-east England, north-west England and other areas.

On Saturday, a band of rain is expected to move southwards across the UK, followed by the spread of cold air to southern regions on Saturday night.

Speaking to the Mirror, Jim Dale, the chief forecaster at British Weather Services, said the incoming cold spell will feel like a "week in the freezer".

He said: "The board is set, the pieces are moving! This one is looking like a full week in the freezer before it relents.

"The weather models will ebb and flow but the latest is spelling a very deep snow time (several inches) for the Midlands and Pennine towns and villages. Scottish hills and mountains go without saying. Traffic dislocation and dangers appear inevitable. But it all means nothing for how Christmas may turn out."

The Met Office is also predicting snow for late November, but to a lesser extent, with the agency's latest long-range forecast - which covers November 18 to 27 - predicting "frequent wintry showers".

The forecast states: "Frequent wintry showers are expected, mainly in the north and along eastern and western coasts where exposed to the strong north to northwesterly flow.

"Snow is likely to fall to low levels, especially in the north. Many inland areas may be largely dry with lengthy sunny spells, especially where sheltered from the flow. However, there is a risk of some more organised areas of rain and hill snow running east across more southern parts."
