We tried Aldi's new 99p festive snack that's dividing shoppers
by Emma Gill · Manchester Evening NewsIt's Christmas time, which means we start seeing all kinds of new products and flavours in the shops.
But there's a new 99p item at Aldi that's getting shoppers excited and annoyed in equal measure.
The new item is a twist on the classic Jaffa Cake, with the retailer now selling a limited edition Cherry Bakewell Jaffa Cake.

They're proving quite divisive among shoppers, with some saying 'Jaffa Cakes and cherry bakewell should never be mixed', but others saying 'these look yummy' and 'dreams do come true'.

We managed to pick up a box of the new cakes to judge for ourselves. You get 12 in a box, so they work out at just over 8p each.
Described as a 'sponge base with a cherry flavoured filling and a white chocolate topping, with dark chocolate decoration', they certainly look pretty tasty.
If you're a fan of the traditional Jaffa Cakes, then you'll be familiar with the consistency of a jelly-like centre, coated with a layer of chocolate that cracks with the lightest touch.

These are the same, but obviously the tangy orangey flavour is replaced with the jam and almond taste of cherry bakewell.
There's quite a thick layer inside each one and, from the very first bite, there's no doubting the flavour of these.
With just three each between our family of four, they didn't last long. We're all a bit partial to a traditional Cherry Bakewell and these went down a treat.
They might not be everyone's cup of tea, but we'll certainly be having them with ours.
