Emergency services deal with major overnight fire at Asda store

Fire crews were called to a major fire at the Asda store in Llandudno Junction in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Emergency services were called shortly after 1am.

At its peak six fire crews and an aerial ladder platform tackled the blaze. The fire is now out but fire crews remain at the scene.

On Tuesday morning, the cordon is in place with the supermarket store and the Iceland store next door cordoned off by tape. A statement from Asda said: “We’ve had to temporarily close our Llandudno Junction store after a fire in the early hours of this morning.

"We’d like to thank the fire service for their response and can confirm that nobody was in the store when the incident occurred. The store will remain closed whilst the local authorities carry out their investigations and we would like to thank our customers for their understanding during this time."

There is a strong smell of smoke in the Conway Road area of Llandudno Junction after the fire. A North Wales Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said it was alerted to the incident at 1.08am.

Of the six crews called- two came from Llandudno, two were from Colwyn Bay and there were one each from Conwy and Abergele.

There were no injuries. The fire was out by 3.37am, some two and a half hours after the initial call.
