Christmas tragedy as cyclist dies in Solihull crash - what we know so far

A cyclist has died in a collision with a car. The victim was a man in his 50s whose family had been informed, West Midlands Police said.

It happened at around 7am today, Tuesday, December 17, in Wagon Lane, Solihull, and the casualty was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the car remained at the scene.

Officers remained in Wagon Lane into this afternoon and it remained closed.

Wagon Lane is a long road just off the A45 Coventry Road that runs through Sheldon and is mainly residential. A West Midlands Police spokesperson confirmed: "We are currently at the scene of a fatal collision in Wagon Lane, Solihull.

"We were called at 7am today after a cyclist was involved in a collision with a car. Sadly, the man in his 50s was pronounced dead at the scene from his injuries.

"His family has been informed and are being supported by our officers. The driver of the car involved remained at the scene and is helping us with our enquiries.

"We will be at the scene throughout this morning gathering evidence, with drivers asked to avoid the area and seek alternate routes while the road is closed.

"Anyone who was driving in the area at the time and may have seen the collision or have dashcam footage can contact us via 101 or Live Chat quoting log 523 of December 17."
