Met Office says weather shift that'll be 'shock to the system' will start tomorrow

The Met Office has warned a weather shift that'll be a "shock to the system" is set to begin in the country from TOMORROW. Clare Nasir, from the Met Office, appeared on Sky News today where she delivered the latest on the prospect of snowfall.

She said: “We’ve got a major change of weather type coming our way. The wind’s already just pushing in from the arctic across the far north of Scotland but eventually all of us will be immersed in this very cold air. The reason why there are warnings out, first of all there’s warning across northern Scotland through Sunday - that’s because there's a risk of snow showers and ice as temperatures plummet.

“And on Monday into Tuesday there’s a main event happening - an area of cloud and rain which will slide down the north of England with some snow and the risk of ice. If you cast your mind back to just last week, we saw temperatures in Scotland of 18C so certainly this is a real shock to the system.

“And the weather as we enter Tuesday will be quite hazardous for some with the risk of some snow, rain in the south and those snow showers in the north. So lots to contend with as we enter the next 80 hours.” Ms Nasir said there is “some uncertainty” and it is a “subtle system”.

The early forecast for tomorrow from the Met Office explains: "Hazy spells of sunshine will be replaced by cloud and patchy rain across northern and western parts. Further wintry showers for northern Scotland. Driest and brightest towards the south."

And the outlook for Monday to Wednesday adds: "Wet for many on Monday, with snow possible across northern hills and lower levels for Scotland. Brighter on Tuesday and Wednesday, with sunshine and wintry showers. Feeling much colder."
