Well-known Derbyshire pub flogging all its furniture after year-long closure

The future of the pub is yet to be confirmed

A Derbyshire country pub is selling off all its furniture as it approaches one year since devastating floods forced its closure. The Hurt Arms in Ambergate cancelled its Bonfire Night event, which is its "busiest event of the year", last year after water surrounded the historic pub during the Storm Babet floods on October 24.

Staff initially expected the Amber Valley pub to reopen after a "couple of weeks", however, no plans to reopen the venue have been revealed as of yet. In a recent update, a spokesperson for the pub said: "Next week we will be selling all of our furniture.

"In addition to our restaurant furniture, we will be selling the contents of our hotel rooms. [We have had] a lot of comments and messages about our future as a business and closing for good.

"Whilst we are still not in a position to announce our future plans we would like to thank all of our wonderful followers, guests and clients for being so supportive since our closure due to the floods last year."

Hundreds of items have been listed for sale and the pub's Facebook page is regularly informing customers on opening times and the availability of particular items of interest. Following the closure last year, a member of staff at the pub told Derbyshire Live: " "It has been a difficult time for both us and the local community.

"Bonfire Night in particular is an evening that we look forward to all year round and have people come back for our displays year after year. Even before the Government shut pubs and restaurants for the second time in 2020 we managed against the odds to find a way to host our Bonfire Night, closing the very next day for another lockdown.

"It’s devasting that the elements have taken hold this time and we have been forced to temporarily close. Particularly when coming towards Christmas, one of the busiest times for the hospitality industry. We have been overwhelmed by the offers of help and kind words of support from the local community.

"People are encouraging others to visit our other pubs and restaurants too to help support us which really means a lot. We do see all messages, emails and voicemails left for our team and appreciate every single one." Prior to the furniture sale, which has taken place on most weekends since September, the pub, which is part of the Moorwood Hotel Collection, was regularly informing customers of events taking place at its sister sites.

Other venues that form part of the collection of hotels in Derbyshire include The Horse and Jockey at Wessington, The White Hart at Moorwood Moor and The Canal Inn at Ripley. Although no furniture sale is taking place this weekend (October 5 & 6), the pub says it will be keeping people updated on future sales on its Facebook page.
