Some parishes under flash flood watch amid increased rainfall

· The Gleaner

The Meteorological Service has issued a flash flood watch for low-lying and flood-prone areas of St Mary, Portland, St Thomas, Kingston, St Andrew, St Catherine and Clarendon.

A flash flood watch means that flash flooding is possible, and residents are advised to take precautionary measures and be ready for quick action if flooding is observed or if a warning is issued.

The measure remains in place until 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 27.

The Met office says a broad trough across the central and western Caribbean is producing a large area of organised showers and thunderstorms across the region, including Jamaica.

Observational data indicate that light to moderate showers and thunderstorms have been affecting eastern parishes since early this morning, and is forecast to spread to south-central parishes by this afternoon.

Fishers on the cays and banks, especially those on the south coast, are urged to exercise extreme caution as sea conditions will continue to deteriorate in the vicinity of showers, thunderstorms and strong winds.

The Met office says it will continue to monitor the system.
