Section of the Danks to Chapelton main road in Clarendon closed

The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising that the roadway in the community of Cross Roads, along the Danks to Chapelton main road in Clarendon, is closed with immediate effect.

It says the closure is due to a failure of the road surface as a result of an earthquake earlier this month and subsequent rainfall which caused further deterioration.

According to the NWA, soil movements were confirmed following an earthquake on November 10.

Continuous rainfall in the last two and a half weeks further destabilised the area making it unsafe for general use by motor vehicles.

The NWA says there are two alternative routes available to motorists, with one only suitable for small vehicles.

The recommended route for small vehicles is through Hyman Street, located in the general vicinity of the affected road section.

Larger vehicles travelling from the direction of May Pen should turn left at Coco Piece, continue through Wood Hall, then Mount Providence to New Ground, turn right and head towards Summerfield. The reverse will obtain for motorists travelling from the direction of Summerfield.
