New Devon shop selling pre-loved furniture
by Lewis Clarke · DevonLiveNorth Devon Hospice has opened its new Furniture Shop in Barnstaple. The shop offers furniture and household items, with all proceeds going directly towards providing care and support to local people who are facing a life-limiting illness.
The Furniture Shop, located at Two Rivers Industrial Estate on Braunton Road, Barnstaple, is filled with pre-loved furniture, as well as homeware items, books and electrical goods, perfect for those looking to furnish their homes or discover unique pieces.
Daren Ainscough, head of retail at North Devon Hospice said: “We’re thrilled to have opened our new Furniture Shop this month, which is a fantastic addition to the North Devon community. With a wide range of quality and stylish items, our new shop will not only provide a great shopping experience for customers, but it also offers a meaningful way for people to support the hospice. Every item purchased or donated helps to fund a lifeline of care for local patients and families, both at the hospice and in their own homes.”
The ribbon was officially cut by Simon Randall of Barnstaple, who finds himself in the care of the hospice, having supported the charity for decades through his involvement in Barnstaple Round Table and many other community groups.
“It was an absolute honour to be asked to cut the ribbon,” said Simon. “I’ve been diagnosed with cancer of the stomach, throat and oesophagus - which is sadly terminal – and it’s only now that I’ve appreciated the full scale of the care offered by North Devon Hospice.”
Simon added: “Having supported the charity for so long, I didn’t realise that the majority of care happens out in the community. But now I have my own hospice community nurse, Trevor, and he’s been incredible. There’s so much support available for me and my wife, it has opened my eyes to how much care is provided that we just don’t see. And that’s why this new Furniture Shop is so important, because all the funds raised here will make a difference to people like me when we really it.”
In addition to welcoming shoppers, the hospice’s Furniture Shop is actively seeking donations of high-quality furniture and household items that can be sold to raise essential funds.
To make donating easier, the hospice Retail Team asks anyone who’d like to donate an item to send a photo to the Furniture Shop WhatsApp on 07821 668453. They can then check safety requirements and confirm whether it can be sold. A convenient collection service is also offered, whereby members of the dedicated team are available to pick up donations from homes across North Devon, ensuring that every contribution goes toward supporting local families facing tough times.
The North Devon Hospice Furniture Shop is open seven days a week, offering convenient hours for customers: Monday – Friday: 9.00am – 6.00pm, Saturday: 9.30am – 5.00pm, Sunday: 10.00am – 4.00pm.
Whether you’re looking for a bargain, furnishing your home, or wish to support a vital local cause, the North Devon Hospice Furniture Shop offers something for everyone.
