MeTech Holdings announced on Nov. 1 that first ‘low-carbon Hanwoo (Korean premium domestic beef)’ tasting event will be held in Korea. Low-carbon Hanwoo will be supplied from Haenam Ihyeon Farm in Jeollanam-do and the event will be held at traditional Texas barbecue restaurant Tex Camp for celebration in Hanwoo day.

The tasting event was a position to announce globalization of Haenam low-carbon Hanwoo. Methane gas from cattle’s is very serious issue. A single cattle produces more greenhouse gases than a car. The biggest concern for governments around the world is cattle composes a significant contributor to the greenhouse gases.

Haenam Ihyeon Farm ‘Low-carbon Hanwoo’ taste event was held with Haenam Ihyeon Farm CEO Lee Hang-Rim, Metech CEO Park Chan-Mok, and foreign guests in Korea participated in the event. Low-Carbon Hanwoo which was raised at Haenam Ihyeon Farm was cooked in the tasting event.

Haenam Ihyeon Farm result showed that the methane gas was reduced by 50% compared to other Hanwoo farms. This result was verified by using Metech Methane Capsule.

Haenam Ihyeon Farm owner Lee Hang-Rim said, “I feel proud to hold the first low-carbon Korean beef tasting event in Korea to celebrate Korean Beef Day. Through Metech low-carbon certification, we have been able to create opportunities to export beef to UAE, the Middle East (Asia), etc. We will continue to reduce carbon emissions by working with Metech.”

Haenam Ihyeon Farm represents low-carbon farm in Korea that has received low-carbon certification from Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. In order to minimize carbon emissions, they have acquired organic livestock certification, animal welfare certification, low-carbon livestock certification, HACCP certification, clean livestock certification, green livestock certification, and antibiotic-free certification.

CEO Park Chan-Mok from Metech said, “We have already exported ‘methane capsules,’ which can measure (detect) methane gas and carbon dioxide generated inside the stomachs of cows. Currently, we are exporting methane reduction capsules to five countries: the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Brazil, Australia, Netherlands, and United Kingdom. We are also introducing a blockchain-based system with blockchain tech company Hessegg and we are in the process of fully implementing the k-Cow (Hanwoo) low-carbon certification standardization project.”
