Fire closes part of A&E at QMC - 'stay away unless it's life-threatening'
by Rucsandra Moldoveanu · NottinghamshireLiveThe emergency department at Queen's Medical Centre (QMC) in Nottingham was partly closed following a fire. The incident occurred on Sunday night (November 24) and the affected area was evacuated.
Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust also asked people to only attend the emergency department with life-threatening injuries or illnesses due to increased pressure following the fire. Just after midnight on Monday, November 25, the trust said: "Our Emergency Department is under increased pressure tonight due to an incident that has closed part of the department.
"Please only come if you have life-threatening injuries or illnesses. That way we can help the people who need it most."
The trust confirmed for Nottinghamshire Live on Monday morning that no one was injured during the incident and that the affected area has since reopened and is operating as normal. An NUH spokesman said: "A small fire occurred in the Emergency Department last night.
"This was isolated to a small area of the department, which was immediately evacuated. No one was hurt.
"The area has since reopened this morning and the Emergency Department is operating as normal. Our Emergency Department remains very busy and we are reminding our communities to only attend for life-threatening conditions that need immediate medical attention.
"If you don't need emergency care but it is urgent, please contact 111 or visit your local urgent treatment centre."
