Queen Camilla's health update as she confirms major diagnosis at state visit

by · NottinghamshireLive

Queen Camilla has been diagnosed with pneumonia, according to a Royal announcement. The Queen informed guests at the state visit of Qatar's Emir and his wife that her chest infection was a form of lung disease.

Suffering from post-viral fatigue, Camilla is absent from the outdoor elements of the Qatari visit, following doctor's advice to take more time for recovery. Although she was not hospitalised, the Queen is now experiencing bouts of extreme tiredness.

It is understood that Camilla's condition was viral, not bacterial, and she no longer has pneumonia. She missed the outdoor ceremonial welcome on a chilly Horse Guards Parade on Tuesday.

This news follows the Palace's confirmation that Camilla would miss the ceremonial welcome during the Qatari state visit due to significantly diminished energy reserves following her chest infection. Doctors have advised Camilla, 77, to rest and recover fully due to the lingering effects of the illness, which she contracted a month ago after her long-haul trip to Australia and Samoa.

A Buckingham Palace spokesperson stated: "The Queen has been suffering from a viral infection which has been diagnosed as pneumonia.", reports the Mirror.

"Her Majesty has not required hospital treatment but is experiencing lingering side effects, chiefly suffering extreme bouts of tiredness which has meant the need for greater flex in her working diary."

"Her symptoms have been persistent for a number of weeks but fortunately she is well enough to attend several engagements for the Qatari state visit and looks forward to returning to a full schedule as soon as possible."

The Queen's ongoing health issues have led her to withdraw from previous events, most notably in November when she was absent from several Remembrance Day commemorations. She withdrew from the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance and the traditional Cenotaph wreath laying, which were attended by King Charles and other UK dignitaries.

Instead, she marked the event "privately at home". Last week, the Queen also withdrew from the Royal Variety Performance, with Buckingham Palace issuing a statement about her lingering symptoms.

Ahead of the event, the palace stated that she "continues to experience some lingering post-viral symptoms", and would be resting on doctors' advice. Royal insiders had previously stated that there had been no change in any diagnosis or treatment Camilla was receiving, and that the Queen needs time to rest and recover fully, which was more challenging with a back-to-back diary programme such as the state visit.

No significant changes are expected to her diary for the remainder of the week, but the Queen has been advised by her medical team to take each day as it comes.

Meanwhile, the event signifies a more active week for Kate, who has been gradually stepping up her public engagements following the completion of her chemotherapy treatment in the summer. The princess is set to host her yearly Christmas carol service at Westminster Abbey on Friday, where she is anticipated to be accompanied by her children and husband for the occasion.
