I'm a cleaning expert - here's how to get rid of tough limescale on your shower door

by · NottinghamshireLive

Shower doors are notoriously tricky to keep spotless, with the moist bathroom conditions fostering stubborn stains like greasy soap residue and limescale. Limescale, which is composed of minerals left behind by evaporated water, forms a hard water stain that becomes increasingly difficult to remove over time if not addressed promptly.

Regular cleaning of shower glass is essential to prevent mould from taking hold in the corners of the door, but this doesn't necessitate the use of harsh chemical cleaners. Amy Brooks, a cleaning expert from Bella Bathrooms, has revealed that lemon juice is one of the simplest and most effective methods for tackling tough stains on your shower door.

She advises: "Lemon is not only great at getting rid of scum and mineral deposits, but it is ideal for removing streaks from glass shower doors."

She further suggests combining lemon with baking soda, explaining: "Ideally, when using lemon, you will want to combine it with baking soda as the acid will create a reaction with the baking soda."

This reaction results in a foam that's excellent for scrubbing down any part of the bathroom, not just the shower door. Lemon juice might seem an unlikely cleaning agent, but its high acidity makes it highly effective at dissolving limescale minerals, reports the Express.

Additionally, its antibacterial properties mean it also sanitises your shower doors. Baking soda, known for its ability to tackle fatty stains such as oil and grease, is the perfect natural product for eradicating soap stains from your shower glass.

Here's how to clean shower glass using lemon juice and baking soda. Simply mix baking soda with lemon juice until you have a thick paste.

Apply this paste all over your shower door, paying special attention to areas with the worst stain build-up. Leave the shower door alone for at least five to 10 minutes to allow the lemon juice and baking time to break down the stains.

Don't worry if it begins to fizz as it reacts to the limescale - this is perfectly normal. Once the time is up, use a sponge to gently wipe your doors and the stains should easily come off.

Rinse the shower door with clean water and quickly wipe it with a clean cloth to avoid streaks. Your shower glass doors should now be sparkling clean using this easy but incredibly effective homemade solution.
