The cost of staying snug this winter doesn't have to be sky-high, despite the soaring prices of fuel bills.
Many will be bracing themselves for chillier homes, donning extra jumpers or turning to space heaters to avoid cranking up the central heating. However, Which? advises a singular, straightforward purchase can significantly boost your warmth without breaking the bank - it's as cheap as 3p an hour to operate.
In a recent TikTok video by @whichuk, it was suggested that heated throws are currently the go-to solution; they're not only effective and economical but might also slash your heating expenses considerably.
Within their viral advice video, the host highlighted such throws offer “great value”, with certain models available for just £55 - a price that may seem steep initially but can lead to substantial savings over time.
As mentioned in the clip: "They cost just 3p per hour to run on their highest heat setting. Meanwhile, heating your home costs around £1.68 per hour."
This could amount to about £13 per day if you’re running your home heating for eight hours, illustrating the potential cost-effectiveness of a £60 throw.
If used daily for three hours instead of the central heating, the throw could pay for itself in less than two weeks, the user explained: "So, if you have your heating on for eight hours, you're paying around £13 a day. So this means if you were to use a £60 throw for three hours a day, instead of your central heating, it could theoretically pay for itself in less than two weeks."
The video has racked up hundreds of views since being posted, with viewers quick to share their thoughts. While experiences with heated blankets varied, many lavished praise on them.
However, the £55 price tag raised eyebrows, as some suggested there might be more affordable options available. One viewer commented: "Paid £30 for my blanket, 1p per hour to run." Another shared: "I love mine. Bought from a reputable supplier."
A third joked: "And never get up from the couch again." Yet not everyone was sold on the idea, with one person remarking: "I bought one and it broke." Meanwhile, another added: "£55 is a lot. I'd rather use a hot water bottle."
