Boy, 2, dies in freak fireplace accident while playing with his sister
The devastating event has left the local community in shock.

According to reports, the children's mother had left them home alone, with the older sister—who is of legal age to supervise—looking after the boy.
Neighbours in Wigan shared that the fireplace toppled over on the young boy on the afternoon of Wednesday, September 18, causing severe injuries.
Despite being rushed to hospital, he was tragically pronounced dead shortly after. The devastating event has left the local community in shock.
The incident prompted a large emergency response around Fisher Close, Worsley Mesnes, Greater Manchester, reports the Mirror. The North West Air Ambulance was also deployed, landing in a nearby field. It is believed the children were dancing together when the heavy fireplace suddenly collapsed on the toddler.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police stated: "At around 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday, September 18, officers were called to reports of concern for the welfare of a child on Fisher Close, Wigan. Despite paramedics' best efforts, a two-year-old boy later died at the hospital. Enquiries are ongoing, and officers are supporting the family during this difficult time." No further details have been provided.
The mother and family have since been comforted by friends and neighbors. One local resident told Wigan Today: "We saw a lot of police and ambulance activity but didn’t know the reason. Now that we do, it’s heartbreaking. I feel so sorry for the family."
